North West Keel Boat Championships - 2010 |

A mixture of wind conditions prevailed over the annual North West Keel Boat championships held at Transvaal Yacht Club over the past two weekends.
 Although a twenty one strong fleet sailed out to the start line on Saturday afternoon 13 February, not a single race was sailed due to lack of wind. On Sunday, the next morning, there was a complete turnaround in gusty conditions with many boats starting with too much sail area causing over powering and a struggle to finish the first race. Nubee skippered by local sailor, Les Faber, broke their rudder in the second race causing his crew to limp home for repairs and miss the third race too.

2009 Mpumalanga Championships |

As my first time to the Witbank Mpumalanga Championships I was very impressed with the enthusiasm that everyone had in getting ready for an 11.00 h start. With the average travelling time about an hour and a half Witbank is just around the corner for most of us. The cool start to the day soon evaporated with a cup of hot chocolate at the local Engen garage and then it was over bumps and around circles, 12 to be precise to get to the waters edge. Things happened quickly and efficiently and in no time 12 boats were on the water and the grounds of the club became an instant campsite!
11.00 was the official start time and no time was lost!
